In September 2014, a follow-up project with ENGEL Austria GmbH for the project AUToMAte will start. ENGEL Austria GmbH is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of plastic machine manufacturing, with eight production plants worldwide as well as subsidiaries and representatives in over 85 countries. The company develops the software for their machine control units in-house. The control units provide a highly resistant, dirt-insensitive touchscreen for navigating through all sections of the user interface. The aim of this project is the development of a web-based software solution for visualizing the operator’s navigation between masks of the user interface together with the number of interactions and the dwell times on each mask. Filtering mechanisms will allow to distinguish between different contexts (e.g. night shift vs. day shift), and observed navigation problems can automatically be highlighted in the visualization. The evaluation of machine usage in the field will allow ENGEL to further improve the user interfaces of their machine control units. The project builds on results that have been developed in the course of the AUToMAte project.
